Mirjana Bogosanovic

Personal Details

Mirjana Bogosanovic has Masters of Engineering degree from The University of Auckland, New Zealand and BSc degree in Electronic Engineering from Zagreb, Croatia. From 1996 to 2007 she was with a New Zealand Crown Research Institute, Industrial Research Limited (Auckland, New Zealand), working as a Research Scientist in the Microwave Devices section of the Imaging and Detecting Team. Mirjana has published eight conference and five journal papers, holds two patents and has authored a number technical reports. She is a member of IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society and IEEE Antennas and Propagations Society.
Mirjana’s main interest is development of microwave sensors and sensing techniques for nondestructive measurements of material properties.

Research Objectives

“Microwave Sensing for Non Destructive Evaluation of Orthotropic Materials with Application in Wood Industry”
study is concerned with measurement and analysis of microwave propagation through a heterogeneous, orthotropic material. The interaction of the electromagnetic wave with the sample under test is enhanced through the use of a quasi-optical free space propagation system and passive resonant scattering structures. Wood is a particularly important example of an orthotropic material and its characteristics, such as moisture content, density, grain angle and natural defects, are good candidates for microwave non destructive evaluation. The outcome of this study has a significant practical importance that would be of great benefit to the wood industry and will contribute to the development of a microwave non-contact, non-destructive wood properties testing device.
